Two shootings were reported in Long Beach Thursday night, including one that left a man injured and another that resulted in the detention of 17 people for questioning, authorities said.

First Shooting

Officers responded to a shooting call near 14th Street and Walnut Avenue at 7:15PM on Thursday, April 28, according to Sgt. Brad Johnson of the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).

When they arrived they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound, Johnson said. The victim was transported by Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) personnel to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to his lower torso.

The incident is being investigated as possibly gang-related.

Second Shooting

Police were dispatched to the 300 block of West WIllow Street at 10:50PM regarding a shots call, with the calling party saying the shots were coming from the parking lot of a local business, according to Johnson.

“Upon arrival officers attempted to detain subjects in the parking lot but they walked away and went into the business,” Johnson said.

Officers ended up detaining 17 people while they conducted their investigation, he added. Police recovered evidence of a shooting. There were no injuries and no suspects arrested.

The investigation remains ongoing.
