A man was killed Tuesday night when he jumped in front of a car near the Recreation Park Golf Course, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
The crash happened around 11:15 p.m. on Anaheim Street near Roycroft Avenue. Police said a driver in a 2021 Volkswagen ID was headed west on Anaheim when he saw the man “jump from the sidewalk and into the roadway” directly in front of the Volkswagen.
The driver couldn’t avoid hitting the man, who remained lying in the roadway after the crash, according to police. Two more cars may have hit him while he was lying in the road, police said.
He died at the scene, according to the LBPD.
“The drivers of all three vehicles involved remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation,” police said. Investigators don’t suspect them of speeding, driving recklessly or driving while impaired.
Authorities haven’t yet released the deceased man’s identity.
