Long Beach police say a man died after being hit by two vehicles on Pacific Coast Highway early Sunday morning.
The crash occurred around 4:25 a.m. between Daisy Avenue and Maine Avenue where the man was in the eastbound lanes of PCH, police said. The man was not in a marked or unmarked crosswalk, according to the LBPD.
The first vehicle to hit the man, “fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival,” police said. “A second vehicle, driven by a 49-year-old resident of Long Beach, struck the pedestrian after the initial collision. That driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.”
Police said the man who’d been struck died at the scene.
Investigators don’t yet know if speed, distracted driving or impaired driving contributed to the crash. A description of the vehicle that left the scene wasn’t immediately available.
