A SWAT team was dispatched to the area of West 20th Street and Cedar Avenue in the Wrigley area of Long Beach Sunday afternoon following a report of a person with a gun, according to police.

Long Beach police officials say they had to call in SWAT officers to arrest the man who reportedly pointed a gun at his partner and fled to a nearby residence on Sunday afternoon.

When police arrived at the residence, the suspect’s partner said she’d gotten into an argument with the suspect who then physically hit her, pointed the gun at her and fled.

Police established a perimeter around the residence but the suspect refused to come out, according to the LBPD.

Later, the SWAT team was activated around 5:59 p.m. and the suspect was safely taken into custody around 7:54 p.m., police said.

The 23-year-old Long Beach man was arrested and booked on suspicion of one count of inflicting corporal injury, one count of making death threats, and one count of assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

His bail was set at $50,000 and police said the investigation is ongoing.
