Police say they’re investigating a shooting in North Long Beach Wednesday night where a gunman fired his weapon at a man who was trying to drive away from an argument.

The victim, according to police, was near Downey Avenue and Artesia Avenue, which is just south of the 91 Freeway, when a man he didn’t know approached him just before 7:30 p.m.

The victim and the man started arguing, but when the victim got in a car and tried to drive away, the man shot at the car, police said.

Nobody was wounded, and the suspect fled the scene before officers arrived, police said.

It’s not clear what prompted the argument, but police said the incident is being investigated as gang-related, which the department defines as any act “committed for the benefit of, at the direction of, or in association with any criminal street gang.”
