Long Beach’s first murder of the year occurred Monday night when a 33-year-old man was shot and killed in Central Long Beach.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, the man, Sambo Chhoy of Long Beach, was found downed in the street in the area of New York Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue at around 10PM. Chhoy had sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and was pronounced deceased after being transported to a local hospital. 

No suspect information is available at this time, police said, and a motive for the shooting is unknown. The investigation remains ongoing.
