Police are investigating a shooting in North Long Beach that left a man with a bullet wound he didn’t notice until hours later, authorities said.

The victim was near Long Beach and Artesia boulevards at about 12:30 a.m. on Saturday when he heard gunshots, but he didn’t immediately realize he had been shot so he went home and went to bed, said Long Beach Police Lt. James Richardson.

When he woke up later in the day, he found a non-life threatening wound to his upper body and a family member took him to a hospital outside of the city for treatment, Richardson said.

Long Beach police were notified of the incident when they were called to the residence on Sunday at 2:16 a.m. in the 200 block of East 67th Street, just a few blocks from the shooting the day before.

Police are also investigating a second shooting that left a man wounded this weekend.

In that case, officers were dispatched to a local hospital at 4:46 a.m. Sunday but were not able to determine where the incident happened because the victim was being treated by hospital staff, Richardson said. This victim also had a non-life threatening wound to his upper body, according to police.

Both cases are still under investigation and no suspects are in custody, according to authorities.
