A man told police he was sitting in a parked vehicle in the area of Santa Fe Avenue and Summit Street just before 8 p.m. Wednesday night when someone shot him and fled, officials said.

It’s unclear if the suspect fled by foot or in a vehicle and police did not have a description available.

Paramedics took the victim to a local hospital with a non life-threatening gunshot wound to his upper body, police spokeswoman Allison Gallagher said.

Officers found a bullet casing in the area, which is between Cabrillo High School and the West Division police station, she said. Additional details were not available and police do not know a motive for the shooting.

Police asked that anyone with information about the incident contact investigators at 562-570-7370. Anonymous tips may be submitted by calling 1-800-222-8477 or visiting www.lacrimestoppers.org
