Police say a man was struck multiple times by gunfire while sitting in his car in the Washington neighborhood.

Officers responded to the shooting shortly after 6:35 p.m. Tuesday on Chestnut Avenue near West 17th Street, according to Long Beach police.

Investigators determined the victim was in his car when he heard gunfire coming from an unknown direction and “noticed he had been shot,” police said.

The man was taken to a hospital for treatment of multiple non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to his lower body, police said.

A motive for the shooting remains under investigation, and no suspect description was immediately available.
