Long Beach police are investigating a shooting that wounded a man near Veterans Park some time before 2 a.m. Friday, officials said.

They were called to a local hospital about the victim at about 1:50 a.m., where he told them two men had approached him in the area of 28th Street and Pacific Avenue. They brandished a gun and shot him in the upper body before fleeing the scene, spokeswoman Allison Gallagher said.

Officers checked the area for a crime scene, but were unable to find it. The victim is also not cooperating with police and they do not have suspect information, she said.
