Long Beach police are investigating a possible shooting in the Washington neighborhood that left a man wounded Tuesday night, officials said.

Officers were first called to a hospital in Torrance for a shooting victim at about 11 p.m., spokesman Brandon Fahey said. The victim, a man with non-life threatening gunshot wounds to his lower body, told them he was walking in the area of Cedar Avenue and 15th Street when a male suspect approached and shot him.

The victim fled in his vehicle and ended up at the hospital in Torrance, Fahey said.

The officers could not find a crime scene and there were no calls to 911 about shots fired in that area that night, Fahey said. Usually officers can find bullet casings, strike marks or other evidence of a shooting indicating a crime scene.

No one else reported any injuries and police do not know a motive for the shooting, according to Fahey.
