Police arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of stabbing a man after getting into an argument in South Wrigley.

Officers were called to the area near Pacific Avenue and 19th Street around 9:45 p.m. Friday night, where they found a man with non-life threatening wounds to his upper body, Detective Jennifer Arzola said.

Paramedics took the victim to a local hospital and officers found the suspect and arrested him immediately. Charmone Barfield of Compton was booked into jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon that is not a firearm.

Arzola said the initial investigation revealed that the suspect and victim, who did not know each other, got into an argument that led to a physical fight and then the stabbing.

Police do not yet know the motive for the stabbing and they are still investigating, Arzola said.

Police ask that anyone with information on the incident call the violent crimes detail at 562-570-7250.
