Long Beach police are investigating after a man walked into a local hospital shortly before 2 p.m. on Friday with stab wounds to his upper body, authorities said.

The man told police he was walking near the intersection of Anaheim Street and Stanley Avenue, when a man approached him and demanded cash, police spokeswoman Shaunna Dandoy said.

“When the victim refused, a physical altercation occurred which resulted in the stabbing,” she said.

Officers went to the area but couldn’t find the suspect, Dandoy said. The victims wounds are non-life threatening and did not report anything stolen, she said.
