A man was hospitalized for stab wounds Sunday night after a confrontation in Central Long Beach.

The Long Beach Police Department responded to a call about a stabbing at 7:23 p.m. Sunday night at Pacific Avenue and West 14th Street. Officers arrived to find a man attempting to walk to the hospital and proceeded to escort him there, where he was treated for multiple non-life-threatening stab wounds to the upper body.

The victim told officers he was at a park near Pacific Avenue and West 14th Street—which preliminary investigation suggests was the 14th Street Park—when he got into a verbal argument with an unknown male suspect. That person escalated the incident and stabbed the victim. The suspect fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival.

The investigation is ongoing.
