A man causing a disturbance at Bixby Park ended up attacking a man with a metal object Monday morning before officers arrested him, according to Long Beach police.

The attack happened around 7:05 a.m., which is when police got a call that the man was threatening bystanders and vandalizing cars around the park at Cherry Avenue and Ocean Boulevard, Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Arantxa Chavarria said.

The man was armed with some kind of metal object, but police couldn’t immediately say what it was, according to Chavarria.

After arriving, officers quickly found the suspected attacker and arrested him, Chavarria said. His name wasn’t immediately available.

Paramedics took the man who’d been attacked to the hospital to treat a cut to his upper body, authorities said. The injury wasn’t life-threatening, according to Chavarria.

It’s unclear what prompted the attack. Chavarria said police weren’t aware of any connection between the two men.
