Police detained a man and woman while investigating a traffic collision and shooting in North Long Beach on Wednesday afternoon.

At about 2:45 p.m. on April 1, police responded to the area of 52nd Street and Locust Avenue, in the Addams neighborhood, regarding an assault with a deadly weapon and a traffic collision, according to Long Beach police spokeswoman Emily Garcia.

When officers arrived they made contact with a man and woman involved in the traffic collision and discovered that a shooting had also taken place.

Garcia said the man and woman were driving separate vehicles when the female suspect shot at the male victim from within her vehicle.

The shooting happened before the crash. Two other vehicles were struck during the collision.

Neither the man nor the woman, who are known to each other, were injured. Police did not state the nature of their relationship.

They were detained by police.

Authorities said the incident does not appear to be gang-related. Detectives were also called to the scene to continue the investigation.
