A man told police he was shot while sitting in his car near Martin Luther King Jr. Park this morning.

Police said the shooting happened around 8 a.m. on Cerritos Avenue near 21st Street.

“The victim stated he was sitting in a vehicle when a male adult suspect approached him, brandished a firearm, shot him, and fled the area,” LBPD spokesman Brandon Fahey said.

Medics took the victim to a hospital, where he’s expected to survive, Fahey said.

Police said they don’t yet know a motive for the shooting. A more detailed suspect description wasn’t immediately available.

Overnight gunfire

Detectives are also investigating an overnight shooting where nobody was wounded.

Fahey said a fight broke out among a large group of people gathered on Loma Avenue near Anaheim Street around 10:45 p.m. Tuesday.

During the fight, a man fired a gun, and police headed to the scene, Fahey said.

No injuries were reported. Police are still looking for the suspect, according to the LBPD.

Police asked that anyone with information on either shooting call investigators at 562-570-7370. Anonymous tips can be submitted through lacrimestoppers.org.
