Police say they’re investigating a shooting near 10th Street and Walnut Avenue that left a man hospitalized Wednesday night.

The man, according to police, was in the 1000 block of Walnut Avenue around 10:30 p.m. when three men he didn’t know approached him.

The three men started arguing with the victim when one of them shot him in the upper body, police said.

The suspects then fled southbound on Walnut Avenue before officers arrived at the scene, police said.

The victim was taken to a local hospital by Long Beach Fire Department personnel, police said. His injuries are not considered life-threatening, they added.

It’s unclear why the suspects started arguing with the victim. Gang detectives also responded to the scene to investigate, police said.

The shooting came just hours after a man was shot and killed in Long Beach’s Wrigley neighborhood.
