Long Beach police are investigating a shooting that left a man wounded in North Long Beach near Starr King Elementary School on Monday night, officials said.

The man was on the sidewalk in the 200 block of East Artesia Boulevard when an unknown man walked up to him and shot him, police spokeswoman Allison Gallagher said.

Paramedics took the man to a local hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound in his upper body, she said. Police do not yet know a motive for the shooting and did not provide any suspect information.
