A man was shot in the South Wrigley neighborhood of Long Beach Saturday night just minutes after a vehicle with two people inside was reportedly struck by gunfire Downtown, authorities said.

The first shooting was reported at 10:20 p.m. in the 200 block of Pacific Avenue, near the city’s civic center.

A preliminary investigation revealed that an unknown suspect shot at a parked vehicle with a man and girl sitting inside, according to Long Beach police spokesman Alvino Herrera. Neither were hurt.

At 10:30 p.m. police then responded to a local hospital regarding an assault with a deadly weapon call.

“When officers arrived, they contacted a male adult who stated he was shot in the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Henderson Avenue,” Herrera said.

The victim was outside when he was shot in his lower torso by an unknown suspect, Herrera said. However, officers drove to the reported incident area and did not find a crime scene.

The victim’s injuries were not life-threatening, Herrera said.

Both incidents are still under investigation.
