A man was shot and wounded by someone he met in North Long Beach Saturday night, according to authorities.

The victim was meeting with the suspected shooter to sell something, but instead the person tried to rob him, Long Beach Police Lt. James Richardson said.

A similar situation happened Friday night when a meet-up for a sale turned into a robbery, police said, but it’s unclear if the two cases are connected.

Pair robbed by buyer after arranging meet-up for the sale, police say

The Saturday-night shooting happened around 6 p.m. in the 3000 block of E. Artesia Boulevard, Richardson said.

Police learned about it after being called to a hospital in Fountain Valley, he said. The victim’s wounds weren’t life-threatening, according to Richardson.

Police declined to immediately release any more details because the case is still under investigation.

But they said people arranging to meet up to sell items should always keep records of their communication, pick well-lit, high-traffic places such as restaurants or safe-exchange locations—like the West Division Police Sub Station—and agree on a reasonable time for the exchange.
