A person is dead after being struck by a hit-and-run vehicle and left on Metro tracks in the Wrigley District of Long Beach and being struck again by a Metro A Line train, authorities said today.
Officers dispatched at about 9 p.m. Saturday to the area of Long Beach Boulevard and East 23rd Street located the person lying on the tracks on Long Beach Boulevard, the Long Beach Police Department reported.
Paramedics pronounced the unidentified person dead at the scene.
“The preliminary investigation revealed an unknown vehicle was traveling southbound on Long Beach Boulevard when it struck the pedestrian in the roadway,” according to a police statement. “The pedestrian was subsequently struck by the Metro light rail vehicle. The vehicle fled the scene of the collision.”
No vehicle description was immediately available.
