A mother killed her 8-week-old son before taking her own life at an apartment near the traffic circle this morning, Long Beach police announced today.
According to a release issued this evening, the Long Beach Police Department was contacted at 6:35AM this morning regarding an attempted suicide on the 1500 block of Park Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals—8-week-old Shane Ventanilla and his mother, 36-year-old Charlene Ventanilla—unconscious and not breathing, with stab wounds to their upper torsos, the release stated. The Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) responded and declared the two dead.
The investigation revealed the incident appeared to be a murder-suicide. Homicide detectives will be handling the investigation, the LBPD stated.
