Police say a motorcyclist died after sideswiping a pickup truck and crashing into the curb at an intersection in the Zaferia neighborhood.

The crash happened shortly after 10:25 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Redondo Avenue and Anaheim Street, according to Long Beach police.

Police said a 27-year-old man was riding a 2023 Yamaha motorcycle northbound on Redondo Avenue when he sideswiped a pickup truck driven by a 63-year-old man from Lomita, police said.

The motorcyclist lost control after the collision and crashed into the curb, ejecting him from the bike, police said.

The motorcyclist, a 27-year-old Long Beach resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending family notification.

The pickup truck driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Speed was believed to be a factor in the collision, police said.
