A North Long Beach woman’s home was burglarized earlier this month, and she’s asking for the public’s help to try to find the suspects.
Julia, who did not want to disclose her last name, said on March 18 at about 1:30PM, while her grandmother and 105 lb. American Bulldog were sleeping inside, two men broke into her home in the 100 block of East 51st Street.
Video surveillance footage from the scene shows two male suspects (pictured below) on the victim’s porch before they broke into the house.
“They waited at the porch for a minute after ringing the doorbell and knocking on the door,” Julia said in an email to the Long Beach Post. “My grandmother was napping. The surveillance footage on the Dropbox link captures them on our porch and driveway before they hop out backyard gate on the side of the house. From there they turn surveillance cameras on the deck and inside. They gain entry by shattering our glass patio doors to my bedroom, where my dog was surely terrified. They ransacked our shelves, bed, and drawers, broke into our safe with spoons, scissors, and a knife sharpener from the kitchen, and stole jewelry and watches that can never be replaced in sentimental value.”
Julia said heirloom jewelry given to her by her grandmother and the first rings she and her husband gave each other in high school were among the stolen items.
She also said her grandmother is now too traumatized to stay home by herself.
Julia said the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) told her the suspects could possibly be the same ones involved in a string of similar burglaries in the neighborhood recently.
“I’ve lived in North Long Beach almost my whole life and suddenly don’t feel safe in my own home now,” she said. “I know there are much worse things in life that could happen and I’m thankful that they ran off once my grandmother woke up. I know things could have been worse while my family and home were at their mercy, but that doesn’t make this okay. If shedding public light on this could help bring them to justice and stop them from getting into other homes I feel like I at least have to try.”
LBPD spokesperson Marlene Arrona confirmed to the Post that a residential burglary occurred at the home and said the investigation is ongoing.
