A man was taken to a local hospital after he was shot in North Long Beach late Saturday night, authorities said.

The victim told police the shooting happened on the 2900 block of E. Artesia Blvd. but “supplied little information regarding the incident,” police spokesman Lt. James Richardson said.

Police were notified of the shooting by hospital staff and responded to a local hospital where the victim self-transported at 11:40 p.m. on Oct. 12.

Richardson said the victim, who was shot in his upper torso, was transferred to another local hospital by ambulance due to the severity of his wounds. He is listed in stable condition and his injuries are non-life threatening, according to Richardson.

When officers responded to the described location of the shooting they found evidence “consisting of bullet casings,” Richardson said.

The incident is being investigated as gang-related. No suspect information is available at this time.
