Long Beach police say they’re investigating a shooting at a liquor store near MacArthur Park that left one man injured Monday afternoon.

The man was working at NQ Market in the 1500 block of 14th Street, which is just north of Anaheim Street, when another man walked in with a gun and demanded money, police said.

Police did not say whether the worker complied with the robber’s demand, but at some point, the suspect shot the worker in the upper body multiple times, according to authorities. After being shot, the worker got out a gun and fired into the ceiling, police said.

The suspect fled the scene, and officers were called to the scene just after 5 p.m. where they found the worker injured, police said.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel also arrived and took the worker to a local hospital for treatment, police said, adding that his injuries were not life-threatening. No other injuries were reported and police did not provide any suspect information.
