Long Beach police say they arrested a teenager who was wounded in a shooting Tuesday evening. He was taken into custody after officers discovered he had a warrant out for his arrest and that he’d tried to hide a gun he had, according to the department.
The shooting occurred at around 5:55 p.m. Tuesday in the 1100 block of Atlantic Avenue. Police said the teenager was outside there when he was approached by a group of men and one of them drew a gun and fired in his direction. The group left the scene before police arrived, according to the LBPD.
When officers got to the scene, they found the teen suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body and Long Beach Fire Department personnel took him to a hospital, the LBPD said.
Police later learned the teenager had a warrant for his arrest and was in possession of a firearm, which he hid prior to officers’ arrival, according to police. Officers recovered a gun at the scene and booked the victim in Long Beach City Jail on suspicion of illegal gun possession after he was medically cleared.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
