A person was shot and killed and another wounded in North Long Beach early Thursday morning, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).
Officers responded to a shooting call on the 6400 block of Coronado Avenue at about 4:00AM on Thursday, June 9, said LBPD Sgt. Brad Johnson.
When the officers arrived they found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds, he said. One victim was declared dead at the scene by Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) personnel and the other victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
Authorities are withholding the deceased victim’s name until the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office has notified next of kin.
According to ABC7, Laurie Pritchett said her son Wylie Pritchett was killed.
Pritchett said her son was at a house visiting friends when someone drove up and fired several shots from the car, reported Channel 7.
“He got shot,” she said. “A bullet went through my son and went through another kid, his other friend. He’s in the hospital right now…”
LBPD officials identified the man as 20-year-old Lakewood resident Wylee Pritchett.
Authorities said the motive for the shooting is unclear but do not believe it is gang-related. No other information was provided. Homicide detectives were at the scene late Thursday morning continuing the investigation, Johnson said.
The shooting happened near the same location where a 16-year-old male was fatally shot last month.
