A 30-year-old pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Long Beach Thursday evening.

Coroner’s Lt. David Smith identified the woman as Erica Cardenas. He said she was homeless.

Police found out about the crash when someone flagged down a Long Beach police officer at 9:29 p.m. Thursday to report that Cardenas was struck in the 1900 block of Pacific Avenue, the Long Beach Police Department reported.

“The preliminary investigation revealed a sedan traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Pacific Avenue struck a pedestrian in an unmarked crosswalk,” police said in a statement. “The driver did not stop and immediately fled the area.”

Police said the vehicle was a dark sedan with major front-end damage.

They asked that anyone with information contact detectives Kelsey Myers or Kevin Matter at 562-570-7355. Anonymous tips can be sent through LA Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS or visiting lacrimestoppers.org.
