A man was struck and killed by an SUV Saturday night near the 405 Freeway exit onto Pacific Avenue, authorities said today.

Officers were dispatched at 7:55 p.m. Saturday to the area of Pacific Place and West Wardlow Road, where they found the pedestrian in the roadway, the Long Beach Police Department reported. He died at the scene. His name was not publicly disclosed while authorities work to notify his family.

“The preliminary investigation indicates the driver of a 2025 Subaru Crosstrek was traveling southbound on Pacific Place in the number one lane when he struck a pedestrian walking in the roadway, outside of a marked crosswalk,” according to a police statement.

The motorist driving the Subaru stayed at the scene and cooperated with police, authorities said.

Neither speed, distracted driving nor driving under the influence was believed to be a factor in the crash, police said.
