A man was rushed to the hospital overnight after rescue crews freed him from underneath a vehicle that hit him, according to authorities.

The man was struck by a vehicle and became trapped under it at 12:42 a.m. in the area of Willow Street east of the 710 Freeway, said Long Beach police Lt. Royce Wexler.

“Paramedics from the Long Beach Fire Department arrived and treated a male adult pedestrian, who was transported to a local hospital with injuries to his upper body,” Wexler said.

The man had stable vital signs, he said.

“Preliminary information indicated that the involved vehicle was being driven by a female adult and was traveling westbound on Willow Street, when the pedestrian entered the roadway from the north curb and was struck bythe vehicle,” Wexler said. “Impairment and distracted driving are not believed to be factors in this collision.”
