Police say they arrested a Long Beach resident Sunday, Dec. 19 on two warrantsone on a charge of attempted murder and the other for a suspected hit and runstemming from a shooting incident in Central Long Beach last year.

According to police, Lavone Lamar King, 32, was taken into custody Sunday night near Pacific Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway in West Long Beach after an investigation tied him to a shooting on Sept. 11, 2020, where police found “a large crime scene with no victims.”

Police said the shooting last year happened in the 1700 block of E. 17th St. near Long Beach City College’s Pacific Coast Campus. Officers found bullet casings, three guns and several unoccupied vehicles that had been struck by bullets—but no suspects.

In his attempt to escape the crime scene, King also crashed into a parked vehicle and fled the area on foot instead, hence the hit and run warrant, LBPD spokesperson Allison Gallagher said. Police said they suspected the incident may be gang-related, which the LBPD defines as any crime committed “for the benefit of, at the direction of or in association with any criminal street gang.” Any further information on a motive wasn’t immediately available.

King was booked into jail shortly after midnight Monday, Dec. 20 by LBPD officers and transferred to Men’s Central Jail where he was held on just over $2 million.
