Long Beach police arrested a 30-year-old man accused of stabbing another man during a fight in West Long Beach early Thursday morning.

Police and paramedics were called to a report about a stabbing victim at the 2000 block of W. 32nd Street at about 2:50 a.m., spokeswoman Shaunna Dandoy said. They found a man with stab wounds to his upper body, and paramedics transported him to a local hospital in critical but stable condition, she said.

Detectives learned that the victim and another man had been in a fight that escalated into the stabbing, Dandoy said.

Investigators arrested Juan Armando Barreraortega on suspicion of attempted murder at about 4:40 p.m. on Thursday. He is being held on $1 million bail, police said.
