One person was hospitalized today after allegedly stealing a car and leading police on a pursuit through Lakewood that ended in a fiery crash.
Police attempted to apprehend the driver of a stolen vehicle around 12:09 a.m. Wednesday near Paramount Boulevard and Candlewood Street, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson said.
The driver attempted to evade authorities before colliding with a tree minutes later, causing the vehicle to burst into flames at Candlewood Street and Premiere Avenue, police said.
Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.
Debris from the vehicle, which appeared to be a sedan, scattered and struck a nearby home, according to a witness to the collision.
The driver was injured and transported to a local hospital, according to LAPD. No further information was immediately available on the driver’s condition.
Video from the scene shows the car engulfed in flames with smoke emanating from the vehicle while firefighters work to extinguish the fire.
