Long Beach police found a pair of burglars hiding in the attic of a home near Compton College Wednesday afternoon, according to authorities.

Police said they were dispatched to the scene of the break-in around 1:40 p.m. When officers got to the home in the 200 block of Gardner Street, they were told a suspected burglar had gone inside.

“Officers immediately set up a containment of the area and K-9 units were called in to assist with the search,” Long Beach police spokeswoman Karen Owens said.

Officers found two men in the attic and arrested them, according to Owens.

Police identified the men as Michael Toloai, a 31-year-old from Long Beach, and Brandon Melbourne, a 26-year-old from California City.

Owens said Toloai was booked into jail on suspicion of burglary, resisting arrest, trespassing and possession of a controlled substance. He also had warrants out for his arrest on domestic violence and drug charges, she said. He was held in lieu of $170,000 bail.

Melbourne was booked into jail on suspicion of burglary, resisting arrest and trespassing, according to Owens. He was held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
