Long Beach police are investigating a crash that killed a woman last night in downtown Long Beach.
The woman was lying in the middle of the roadway around 10:52 p.m. Monday when a vehicle hit her at the intersection of 6th Street and Pacific Avenue, a Long Beach Police Department spokesperson said. It wasn’t clear why she was lying there.
The woman was treated by Long Beach Fire Department personnel at the scene, but succumbed to her injuries, the LBPD said.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said.
Police do not think speed or impaired driving were factors in the collision. Authorities haven’t publicly identified the victim.
Long Beach has recorded 35 fatal crashes this year. Last year, it saw 53 fatal crashes — the highest total in more than a decade.
