Long Beach Police netted eight felony arrests Friday after patrolling an operational area south of Ocean Boulevard, along the coastline, from Queensway Bridge to the Penninsula, as well as Bixby Park.
In separate accounts, the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) also investigated four shootings Friday afternoon, including one fatal. Three of the shootings took place in North Long Beach, police said.
The statistics below were released by the LBPD on Saturday.

NOTEWORTHY CALLS FOR SERVICE (CFS) AND SIGNIFICANT INCIDENTS:
- Citywide, over the entire 24-hour period on July 4th, the Police Communications Center received 537 pyrotechnic CFS
- 452 (84.1%) of the 537 pyrotechnic CFS were received between 8:00 p.m. and 11:59 p.m.
- For historical comparison, citywide, over the entire 24-hour period on July 4th, the number of pyrotechnic CFS received in previous years was: 561 (2013); 498 (2012); and 439 (2011)
- The Communications Center received 24 fewer pyrotechnic CFS citywide on July 4, 2014 compared to July 4, 2013 (a 4.2% reduction)
- The Arson Unit responded to an incident involving an intoxicated adult who was injured when he ignited then held onto a firework as it exploded. His injury required the amputation of his thumb. He remains hospitalized.
- The lone violent crime in the operational area involved a group who assaulted a male adult victim at Pine Avenue and Seaside. Officers located and arrested three suspects. The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The investigation remains ongoing.
