The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) activated its SWAT team Thursday night in an attempt to find an armed robbery suspect in the Lincoln neighborhood of Long Beach, who eventually fled police.

At approximately 7:30PM officers responded to a call about a suspicious person in the area of 11th Street and Orange Avenue, who was later determined to have attempted an armed robbery, according to LBPD spokesman Sgt. Brad Johnson.

The suspect, believed to be armed with a handgun, attempted to rob a victim in the parking lot of a local food establishment, he said.

The suspect fled upon the officer’s arrival, when a quick containment was established, according to Johnson.

The LBPD SWAT team was activated to search for the suspect, due the dangerous nature of the suspect possibly being armed.

The search was ended early Friday morning at 1:00AM with the suspect still at large.
