Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officials are asking for the public’s help in finding the driver of a vehicle that struck 43-year-old Long Beach resident Sandra Davis before fleeing the scene.

Screen Shot 2013-11-27 at 9.53.35 AMIn the early evening of Friday, November 22, Davis was crossing South Street near Ackerfield Avenue in North Long Beach, entering eastbound traffic on South. After nearly being hit by a truck, she continued to cross and was struck by what was described as a “small, older model, light tan or beige colored Altima-style vehicle.”

The vehicle briefly braked, indicating that the driver acknowledged the collision, before leaving the area without notifying emergency operators or attempting to provide aid to the victim.

Davis currently remains in the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

According to officials, it remains unclear as to why Davis was crossing the street at that particular point, though there are no crosswalks for a quarter-mile in each direction from where she was hit.
