A driver fleeing from police crashed in Long Beach’s Washington neighborhood Wednesday evening, prompting an hours-long search through the area, according to authorities.

Los Angeles Police Department Harbor Division officers were pursuing a felony narcotics suspect when the driver headed into Long Beach around 6:30 p.m., according to the LAPD.

The car chase came to an end when the driver crashed into a parked vehicle near Locust Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway, LAPD Officer Lizeth Lomeli said.

One person was quickly arrested, but another person in the car fled on foot, according to police. LAPD officers called in help from Long Beach police who surrounded the area to try to contain the suspect.

Police called in a K9 and held the perimeter for several hours, but the suspect who fled on foot was able to escape, Lomeli said.
