UPDATE | 9/2/2018: Authorities say they’ve arrested a 19-year-old on suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman in Bellflower and a student in a Lakewood High School restroom.

PREVIOUSLY | Deputies were investigating reports of someone attempting to rape a student at Lakewood High School Friday, a sheriff’s official confirmed.

However, Deputy Armando Viera of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau on Saturday said there “there is no indication that it is rape yet.”

“Until we get further information from the (sheriff’s) Special Victims Bureau, we can’t proceed further,” Viera said.

Authorities couldn’t immediately provide many details, but LASD Lt. Michael Thomas said deputies were at the campus attempting to determine what happened after someone reportedly tried to rape a female student.

Sheriff’s officials learned of the incident around 1 p.m., about an hour after it happened, Thomas said. Witnesses said a man may have hopped a fence to get on campus and then into a campus restroom.

School officials couldn’t immediately provide any specifics, according to Long Beach Unified School District spokesman Chris Eftychiou.

“We’re aware of this concern and have been in close touch with law enforcement,” Eftychiou said.

Later, Eftychiou said the district sent out an automated phone message to parents of Lakewood High students:

Today, Friday, August 31st we had a report that a student may have been assaulted on our campus. We have been in close contact with law enforcement, and they are looking into this matter. Neither law enforcement nor the school has further information that we can provide at this time, but we will continue to work with law enforcement as they investigate, and if we receive additional information that we can share, we will do so.
