UPDATE | National Kappa Sigma leadership have suspended their Cal State Long Beach chapter after local authorities announced Monday a reported sexual assault during an off-campus party over the weekend.
“The university has been in contact with the fraternity’s national leadership and they have suspended the chapter and launched an investigation as well,” CSULB spokesman Mike Uhlenkamp said.
The incident was reported Sunday, February 14 by a female student who attended an off-campus Kappa Sigma party Saturday night and said she was sexually assaulted by a man in his early 20s in the early morning hours of Valentine’s Day.
The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) is actively investigating the allegations, said LBPD’s Marlene Arrona.
“This appears to be an isolated incident,” Arrona said. “There is no indication, at this time, there is any safety concerns to the community.”
No arrests have been made.
No other information is available at this time in order to protect the integrity of the case and the privacy of the victim, officials said.

2/15/16 at 3:54PM | A female Cal State Long Beach (CSULB) student was allegedly sexually assaulted during an off-campus fraternity party over the weekend, campus police announced.
The victim reported the incident to the CSULB Campus Security Authority on Monday, February 15, according to a notice by the CSULB Police Department.
The student said she was sexually assaulted in the early morning hours of Sunday, February 14 during a Kappa Sigma party attended by both students and non-students and where alcoholic beverages were reportedly widely consumed, authorities said.
She described the perpetrator—someone she did not know—as a Hispanic man in his early 20s.
University officials declined to comment on the incident due to the ongoing investigation.
No disciplinary action has been taken against the fraternity at this time, CSULB spokesman Mike Uhlenkamp said.
This is the second reported sexual assault at a CSULB fraternity function this school year. Two females were previously assaulted by two male CSULB students during a Sigma Alpha Epsilon party in October 2015.
