A Compton man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of kidnapping a woman and sexually assaulting her, and police said there may be additional victims.

Demetrio Estrada, 29, was taken into custody by Long Beach police in the 1200 block of East Pine Street in Compton on suspicion of one count of kidnapping to commit rape and one count of assault with intent to commit a felony sex crime, police said. The arrest came after detectives presented their findings to the District Attorney’s office and secured a warrant, according to a statement from the Long Beach Police Department. Estrada is being held at Long Beach City Jail on $1.1 million bail, police said.

Police announced that Estrada’s arrest comes after an investigation into a sexual assault case dating back to August 2021. Police said Estrada would allegedly drive around Long Beach’s entertainment districts pretending to be working as a driver for a ride-sharing app.

In one instance, Estrada allegedly used a silver 2006 Honda Civic to pick up a woman near a bus stop in the area of First Street and The Promenade in Downtown Long Beach, police said. After entering the car, police said, Estrada drove the woman to a separate location and sexually assaulted her.

Police said there is a possibility that there are more victims, and anyone with information should contact the LBPD at 562-570-7368.
