Seal Beach police on Tuesday released surveillance photos of a would-be bank robber in the hopes it leads to an arrest.

The unidentified man attempted to rob a Wells Fargo bank branch at 13916 Seal Beach Blvd. on Monday afternoon, police said.

A teller pulled a silent alarm at 3:42 p.m., after the suspect handed a note to the employee demanding money and claimed he had a gun, according to Seal Beach police Sgt. Mike Henderson.

The robber backed away and then ran out of the bank.

He was described as white, 40 to 55 years old with a large build and apparently was wearing a wig during the robbery.

Anyone with information about his identity or whereabouts was asked to call Detective Jon Ainley at 562-799-4100, ext. 1113.
