A second man has been arrested in the daytime murder of 23-year-old Jesus Escapite, Jr. who was shot last Monday afternoon on a side street just off Long Beach Blvd. in the Virginia Village area of North Long Beach.

One day after Long Beach police arrested and charged 25-year-old Gustavo Alejandre with the crime, detectives also arrested 20-year-old Jesse Rodriguez in the area of Hardwick Street and Rose Avenue in connection with the shooting.

The murder was determined to be gang-related and both Rodriguez and Alejandre are documented gang members. Both have been charged with one count of murder and are being held on $2,000,000 bail.

The shooting occurred at around 3PM Monday, October 7, on Plymouth St. just west of Long Beach Blvd. and just south of Market St. When officers arrived, officers found the victim shot in the upper torso. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. According to police, the investigation led detectives to believe a blue four-door vehicle was possibly involved in the shooting and homicide detectives worked with North Division patrol officers to identify Alejandre and Rodriguez as suspects.
