Police say they have arrested a second man believed to be responsible for killing a 52-year-old homeless man in a parking lot on Anaheim Street in March.
The assault happened on March 11 shortly before 7:30 p.m., when officers responded to a local hospital to contact a 52-year-old man who had suffered injuries to his upper body, according to Long Beach police.
The victim did not provide details about the assault, but did tell officers he was assaulted in a parking lot near Anaheim Street, police said.
The man, later identified as Chamrong Sok, died at the hospital on April 24. Police said Sok was homeless.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide due to “multiple blunt force traumatic injuries.”
Investigators determined Sok was “involved in a physical altercation” with two men before his death, police said. What prompted the fight remains under investigation.
Homicide detectives eventually identified Brandon Brewington, a 36-year-old Long Beach resident, and Thongsay Ky, a 58-year-old homeless man, as the two men responsible for Sok’s death.
Ky was arrested on suspicion of murder on July 2, when he was found living inside his vehicle near the 1400 block of South Harbor Scenic Drive. Ky was being held in lieu of $2 million bail.
Brewington was already in custody for a May 26 arrest on unrelated domestic violence and robbery charges, according to jail records. He was arraigned on Thursday on the murder charge and was being held on $2.27 million bail.
