Long Beach police are looking for whoever opened fire but didn’t hit anyone near the Signal Hill border Thursday night.

The gunfire happened around 9:15 p.m., which is when someone called to report the sound of gunshots coming from a car on Spring Street near Cherry Avenue, Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Arantxa Chavarria said.

Nobody was there when police arrived, but officers found evidence of a shooting and a car that had been hit by gunfire, Chavarria said.

Police are still investigating and didn’t have any information on a motive or description of the vehicle involved.

Authorities asked anyone with information to call Det. Brad Scavone at 562-570-7370. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling 1-800-222-TIPS or visiting lacrimestoppers.org.
