A man with a minor gunshot wound told told police he’d been shot while riding a bicycle through Long Beach’s Zaferia neighborhood Monday evening, authorities said.

Police said they learned about what happened around 4:40 a.m. Tuesday when they were called to a local hospital where the man was getting treatment.

The man told police he’d taken himself to the hospital after being hit by gunfire in the lower torso while he was riding westbound on Anaheim Street toward Obispo Avenue, Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer De Prez said. Police said the wound was superficial and not life-threatening.

Officers canvassed the area near Anaheim and Obispo, but thet couldn’t find any further evidence of a shooting, De Prez said.

Police are still investigating. No suspect information was available.
