Long Beach police are investigating a shooting that left two men wounded, one critically, in the neighborhood around Poly High School.

The shooting happened at about 10:40 p.m. Friday in the 1000 block of east 16th Street, which is just east of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Lt. James Richardson said. When police got to the scene, they found two men with gunshot wounds to their upper bodies.

They were taken to local hospitals where one man was in critical condition and the other was in stable condition, Richardson said.

The suspects are male, police said, and the incident is being investigated as possibly gang related, which Long Beach police define as a crime committed for the benefit of, at the direction of or in association with a gang.

This shooting was the first of two on Friday night, but there is no indication so far that they are related.

A police official couldn’t immediately provide any more details.
